Overview
Us and Them is an Egyptian developmental program for children working toward a mental age of up to 6 years. Activities are designed for parents to deliver at home across motion, cognitive, language, communication, and self-help skills. The team needed a digital system that turns Portage content into a clear parent journey: intake, assessment, results, and treatment. Native Builders delivered the backend API, bilingual content model, and admin CMS that power the mobile app.
The Challenge
Parents of children with developmental delays needed a clear way to assess skills at home and follow structured activities without relying on scarce clinic visits for every step. Content was hard to keep consistent across age bands and domains, and Arabic and English support was required for Egyptian families. They needed a parent-facing program with an admin system to manage the curriculum.
The Solution
We built a mobile API and admin platform around a Portage-style curriculum. Parents complete a child intake, run an adaptive assessment across five developmental fields and six age stages, then receive a guided treatment path with dual suggested activities, media, and progress tracking. Admins manage bilingual Portage content, users, and inbound contact and career messages from one dashboard.
The Result
Parents can assess developmental ceilings and continue a structured home program without waiting for every clinic visit. Clinical and content teams update age bands, fields, and activities in Arabic and English without app releases. Managers keep program content and lead intake in one place.
Our approach
- Discover: Mapped the parent journey from child intake through assessment, mental-age results, and staged treatment, plus admin needs for Portage content and bilingual delivery.
- Design: Structured the product around age bands, five developmental fields, fail-based ceiling detection, and a checkpoint flow parents can resume safely.
- Build: Delivered a Laravel API with Sanctum auth, Google and Huawei login, bilingual Portage CMS, media-backed activities, and role-based admin tools.
- Refine: Tuned assessment and treatment progression rules, content editing workflows, and Arabic/English locale handling for the mobile app and dashboard.
